(Visited 581 times, 1 visits today)

537 West Melrose is a 77-unit, 5-story contemporary elevator building completed in 1971 in the Lakeview East neighborhood.

The apartments

537 West Melrose has studio and 1-bedroom apartments. Floor plans and near real-time availability are online.

The apartments have large windows, individually-controlled air-conditioning and good closet space. Some of the apartments have hardwood floors in the living areas. One-bedrooms have a well-defined dining area. Kitchens have been upgraded in a variety of styles and some have built-in microwaves.

Amenities, services, policies

537 West Melrose has limited common amenities.

There is an on-site laundry room and on-site covered parking. The building welcomes cats, but not dogs.

The location

537 West Melrose is on a tree-lined one-way street steps from busy Broadway.

The building’s Lakeview East location at the periphery of Wrigleyville and Boystown affords its residents steps-to proximity to everything those neighborhoods have to offer, and good proximity to Lincoln Park and the lakefront.

Shopping. 537 West Melrose residents have good access to grocery shopping.

Treasure Island, which bills itself as “America’s most European supermarket,” is four short blocks north on Broadway and Jewel-Osco is a block further north.

There are Target, Marshalls and Bed Bath and Beyond locations nearby for residents setting up housekeeping.

National retail chains are, however, not a dominant presence in the neighborhood, which draws its character from a variety of locally-owned and quirky smaller shops.

Dining, nightlife, entertainment. Whatever you have a taste for is available in hyper-abundance within a short walk of 537 West Melrose.

Finding a regular breakfast spot is the first order of dining business for many, and 537 West Melrose residents will find neighborhood favorite Melrose Restaurant steps away on Broadway, and Ann Sather just up the street. If coffee and munchies suffice, there are several Starbucks locations within a short walk.

The Broadway strip serves up everything from fast food to Thai to burgers to Irish pubs. Joy’s, Bountiful Eatery, Revolucion, Rocks and Pie Hold Pizza Joint are just a few of the many restaurants and bars along the strip.

The Halsted Street / Boystown scene has dozens of straight, gay and lesbian bars, nightclubs and retail shops within walking distance.

There are nearly two dozen theaters within walking distance of 537 West Melrose in the Belmont Theater District, and dozens more venues for live music performances.

Neighborhood street festivals and fairs are a great source of entertainment in the summer. Events near 537 West Melrose include – to name a few – Northalsted Market Days, the Lakeview East Festival of the Arts, Wrigleyville Summerfest, SausageFest, the Chicago Marathon and, of course, Pride Week.

The websites for the Lakeview Citizens Council and the Lakeview and Lakeview East Chambers of Commerce are a good source to learn about upcoming events.

Parks, recreation. 537 West Melrose residents have convenient access to public parks and recreational activities.

The 1,200-acre Lincoln Park, one of the great public spaces in America, is two short blocks east of 537 West Melrose. At this point in the park you’ll find a playground, the 9-hole Sydney Marovitz golf course, tennis courts and ball fields and a picnic field.

Lincoln Park has almost every recreational amenity imaginable, from an archery range to a great zoo.

Transportation. 537 West Melrose has good access to public transportation.

A variety of CTA bus routes traverse the area. The #36 Broadway bus at the corner, steps from the property, travels into the Loop. The #77 bus on Belmont connects to the CTA Red, Brown and Purple Line stop at Belmont for travel south to the Loop or north to Evanston. The #77 continues west for Blue Line transit to O’Hare Airport. The Belmont stop is just over a 10-minute walk from the property.

537 West Melrose residents have a 4-minute walk to the #146 CTA bus stop on Lake Shore Drive. The 146 runs express to the 900 Shops, anchored by Bloomingdale’s, on Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile, and then on to the Loop.

Lake Shore Drive is a short distance away. There’s a pedestrian underpass at Belmont. Crosstown access to I-90/94 and the city’s expressway grid is inconvenient from this location, and can be time-consuming before and after Cubs’ games.

Zipcar car-sharing locations and DIVVY bike stations are nearby.
