65 East Scott is a 17-story, 230-unit contemporary apartment tower in the Gold Coast.
Arpen Group was the architect for the building, which was completed in 1971.
65 East Scott is the second-newest rental building north of Division St in the Gold Coast. It’s one of only a handful of apartment buildings in an area that has seen no new rental construction since 1972.
The apartments
65 East Scott has a mix of studio, 1- and 2-bedroom, 2-bath apartments.

The apartments are carpeted and have floor-to-ceiling windows.
All-electric kitchens have varied finishes and include built-in microwaves and dishwashers in 1-bedroom and larger units.
Apartments have good closet space and functional layouts. Two-bedroom plans have the split-bedroom layout preferred by roommates and people who work from home.
There are individual electric heat and air-conditioning units in each room.
Views. 65 East Scott is not a view building. It’s nearly surrounded by buildings of equal or greater height. Some of the units do have limited lake views.
Amenities, services, policies
65 East Scott’s common-area amenities include a sundeck on the south side of the building and an outdoor pool.
The building also has a fitness center, storage lockers, a laundry room and a bike storage room.
65 East Scott does not allow pets. The property has on-site management, maintenance and leasing staff, and 24-hour door staff.
The location
65 East Scott is in a very attractive location one building west of Lake Shore Drive and Oak Street Beach.
The location has strong appeal to all age groups and is in an area whose richness and variety defy description.
Shopping. Residents of 65 East Scott have reasonably convenient access to several major grocery stores, in addition to the popular seasonal farmers market on Division St.
Treasure Island, which bills itself as “America’s most European supermarket,” is within a 6- or 7-minute walk of the building. CVS and Walgreens pharmacies, and convenience stores and delis, are also nearby.
A new Jewel Foods is under construction nearby at 1200 N Clark St and is slated to open summer 2017.
Glamorous Oak Street boutiques and Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile shops and Water Tower Place are a few minutes’ walk from the building.
Dining, nightlife. There’s a dense and varied dining and nightlife scene within a short walk of 65 East Scott.
The fabled Pump Room, PJ Clarke’s, McFadden’s, Hash House and Zebra Lounge are along State St just west of the building.
The storied Division Street nightlife strip, home to Bootleggers, the legendary Butch McGuire’s and more than a dozen other establishments is a short walk from 65 East Scott.
Just south of Division you’ll encounter one of the liveliest restaurant and nightlife clusters in Chicago – what some call the Viagra Triangle.
Locals just call it “the triangle,” after the shape of Mariano Park.
Parks, recreation. Residents at 65 East Scott have access to a variety of parks and recreational activities.
Oak Street Beach, with its spectacular views of the Lake Shore Drive skyline, and the 18-mile lakefront trail, are just east of 65 East Scott.
The fabulous Lincoln Park, home to the Zoo, Conservatory, North Avenue Beach and a host of playing fields and other attractions, is less than half a mile north.
Goudy Square Playlot park is a quiet retreat around the corner from 65 East Scott on landmark-laden Astor Street.
Transportation. The building has good access to public transportation.
The CTA Red Line stop at Clark and Division is a 6- to 7-minute walk from 65 East Scott.
A variety of CTA bus routes criss-cross the area along Division and State Streets, and steps from the building on Lake Shore Drive.
Access to I-90/94 and the rest of the city’s expressway grid can be slow along Division St during peak hours. If you’re southbound or headed for the Eisenhower Expressway (I-290), Ontario St is a better option. Lake Shore Drive access is excellent.
Several Zipcar car-sharing locations are nearby. Taxis are easily available 24/7.
