8 East Huron is a 26-story, 102-unit apartment tower with ground-level retail space at the northeast corner of State and Huron in the River North neighborhood. First occupancy was in the fall of 2017.
A joint venture of CA Residential and Harlem Irving Companies is the developer. Valerio Dewalt Train Associates is the architecture firm and Clark Construction is the general contractor.
The apartments
8 East Huron has a mix of studio to 3-bedroom, 3 ½ bath apartments. Floors 15 through 21 have four 2 and 2 ½ bath 2-bedrooms ranging in size from 1,210 to 1,460 square feet. The 22nd and 23rd floors have only two units per floor, with 3 bedrooms and 3 ½ baths, spanning over 2,500 square feet.
Apartments have floor-to-ceiling windows, plank flooring throughout and in-unit washer / dryers.
Kitchens have duotone cabinetry, stainless steel appliance packages and quartz counters.
Views.
View corridors are constrained by neighboring high-rises.
Amenities, services, policies
8 East Huron is a full-amenity building.
There’s a rooftop pool and sundeck with grilling stations.
The building has a fitness room and a party room adjacent to the pool deck.
A lobby rendering indicates that 8 East Huron will have door staff.
The location
8 East Huron has a very appealing location in the dense eastern stretch of River North, a few short blocks from Michigan Avenue’s Mag Mile.
Shopping. Whole Foods “Gold Coast store” is just across the street from 8 East Huron. Trader Joe’s and Jewel-Osco are a few short blocks south of the building.
A number of convenience stores are nearby, as are Walgreens and CVS pharmacies.
Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile shops are just over two short blocks east.
Oak Street boutiques are a few blocks to the north. Big-box retail stores abound in the Clybourn Corridor, a mile northwest, and Macy’s and other State Street shops are a mile south.
The River North Gallery District has taken some hits from the economy in recent years but remains a vibrant art scene. Home furniture and design shops are abundant in the neighborhood.
Dining, nightlife.
There’s a dizzying array of dining and nightlife options in every direction from 8 East Huron.
Head two blocks north to Chicago Ave and you’ll find the Ralph Lauren restaurant on your way east to Chik-fil-A or the Cheesecake Factory with your out-of-town guests.
A little further north is one of the densest, most interesting restaurant and nightlife clusters in Chicago around the triangle-shaped Mariano Park.
Head a few blocks south and you’ll pass Eataly and many other dining and drinking establishments on your way to the restaurants that line the Riverwalk.
Parks, recreation. Washington Square Park is a tranquil, tree-shrouded oasis four short blocks northwest of the building.
Lake Shore Park, which has a running track, softball fields, tennis courts, a playground and a small field house, is a few blocks northeast of the building.
The popular Oak Street Beach is within walking distance.
Transportation. Public transportation is excellent. The CTA Red Line stop at Chicago Ave two short blocks north of 8 East Huron.
A variety of CTA bus routes traverse State St, Grand Ave and Chicago Ave steps from the building.
The location has relatively quick access to I-90/94 and the city’s expressway grid via the Ontario St / Ohio St on / off ramps.
Zipcar and Enterprise CarShare cars are nearby. Taxi service is available 24/7.
The competition
Rentals are generally available in nearby condo buildings, frequently at lower rents. The trade-off is that the condo buildings may not offer the level of finishes or amenities you’ll find at 8 East Huron.
