Eight O Five is a 33-story, 292-unit apartment tower at 805 N LaSalle St in River North. First occupancies for the building started in June 2015.
The development includes ground-level retail space along Chicago Ave.
The project’s developer is Smithfield Development. Berkelhamer Architects is the design architect and Antunovich Associates is the architect of record.
Demolition of an existing building on part of the site began in October 2013 and foundation work commenced in December of 2013.
The apartments
Eight O Five has a mix of studio, convertible, 1- and 2-bedroom, 2-bath floor plans. There are also townhouse units with private terraces above the parking garage on LaSalle. The building has 8 studios, 198 one-bedrooms, 3 two-bedrooms and 8 penthouse apartments.
The apartments have wood-look floors, 9-foot ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows and in-unit washer / dryers. Most have large private balconies or terraces.
Kitchens have a black appliance package. Some floor plans have kitchens that are separated from the living areas.
Gigabit Internet connections are available.
Views. The building’s upper floors have panoramic views to the south, east and west. The view to the north is limited by an adjacent high-rise of nearly equal height
High-floor southeast corner units have the best views. These views were shot from the sundeck at 121 W Chestnut, immediately north of Eight O Five.
Amenities, services, policies
Eight O Five has a rooftop pool and sundeck with a fire pit.
The 8,000 square foot third-floor amenity area, billed as Club 805, has a café / lounge / library with a coffee bar and fireplace. Club 805 also includes a yoga room, a fitness center with cardio and strength-training equipment, a shuffleboard area and a TV lounge. There’s a balcony with gas-fired grills.
The building has a 4-level 108-car parking garage with assigned spaces. Bike storage and resident storage lockers are available.
Eight O Five is pet-friendly and has a private 4th floor dog run.
Eight O Five has 24/7 door staff and on-site leasing and management staff.
The location
The building has a strong River North location close to public transit and daily conveniences.
Eight O Five is in the northern part of River North, a few blocks south of the Gold Coast, and a few blocks west of Streeterville.
The Chicago campus of Moody Bible Institute, which has over 2,000 undergraduate and graduate students, is directly across LaSalle St from Eight O Five. The majority of the students live on campus.
Loyola University’s Quinlan School of Business is three blocks east of Eight O Five. The former Montgomery Ward catalog warehouse, now home to the corporate headquarters of Groupon and Dyson, is a half mile west of the building.
Shopping. Residents of Eight O Five enjoy convenient access to grocery shopping.
There’s a locally-owned Potash Markets a few blocks east. Whole Foods is a few blocks southeast.
A number of convenience stores are nearby and Jewel, Plum Market and a new Target are not far away, as are a number of Walgreens and CVS pharmacies.
The River North Gallery District, shrunken by the economy in recent years, is just south of Eight O Five and remains a scene worth visiting.
The 900 North Michigan shops, anchored by Bloomingdale’s, Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile shops, and Water Tower Place and Oak Street boutiques are all within a 10-minute walk of Eight O Five.
Dining, nightlife. Eight O Five residents are a few minutes’ walk from scores of popular dining and nightlife options in River North and the Gold Coast. They can avoid the crowds and explore the more relaxed scene closer to home in the 700 blocks of Clark, LaSalle and Wells, just south of the building.
Café Iberico on LaSalle is known for its tapas, and for an outstanding selection of affordable wines.
Nearby Clark St venues include Zed 451, 25 Degrees, the Clark Street Ale House and Woodhaven Bar + Kitchen.
The 700 block of Wells St hosts Brehon Pub, Prosecco, Karyn’s Cooked and the ever-popular Yolk.
Two short blocks west of Eight O Five mk serves up new American fare and Kiki’s Bistro offers some of Chicago’s best French food. Both are housed in great loft spaces.
Parks, recreation. Residents of Eight O Five have limited access to parks and recreational opportunities.
Washington Square Park, a tranquil oasis just north and east of Eight O Five, is the only public park within a 10-minute walk of the building.
Transportation. Public transportation from the location is excellent.
Eight O Five is a 5 minute walk from the Brown / Purple Line stop at Franklin and Chicago and the Red Line stop at State and Chicago.
A variety of CTA bus routes run on LaSalle St and Chicago Ave outside the building and along Clark St and State St near the property.
The location has fairly quick access to I-90/94 and the city’s expressway grid via the Ontario St / Ohio St on / off ramps.
An Enterprise CarShare location is planned in the building. Zipcar car-sharing locations are nearby. Taxi service is available 24/7.
