Blue skies at the Chicago Blues Festival

Chicago Blues Festival, June 14, 2008

This year’s Chicago Blues Festival had the makings to be a real downer. The normally four-day affair was cut a day short because of budget shortfalls, and the area’s blues scene recently lost one of its ambassadors in Koko Taylor, who passed away unexpectedly earlier this month.

But if the festival was having problems, you couldn’t tell on yesterday’s sunny afternoon, as the north end of Grant Park was hopping with blues enthusiasts soaking up some much-needed sun. (Sun that, according to Tom Skilling, won’t be sticking around for the rest of the week.) Oh well. It’s Chicago. We’ll take what we can get. Let’s just hope Mother Nature makes up for all this rain with a mild fall.
