Lagrange condo high-rise planned for River West

Catalyst

Vacation schmacation. Despite at least one analyst’s advice to developers to “take a little bit of a vacation to let the market absorb some of this inventory we are seeing,” developer Urban R2 is rolling out its plans to build a high-rise designed by architect Lucien Lagrange in River West. Catalyst, located at 123 N Desplaines St, is the next major project from Urban R2, the developer behind the Helmut Jahn-designed 600 North Fairbanks. The rendering shows a wide building heavy on concrete and with blue accents running throughout. For Lagrange, it’s no X / O, but at least it’s not another Parisian knockoff. Koenig & Strey, which is marketing the project, is already getting a lot of mileage out of the development’s name — out of 27 words on a full-page advertisement in the Tribune, three of them are “reaction.” What reaction do yo’all think the Catalyst will have on River West? The crowded condo market? Western civilization?
