Catalpa Gardens Condominiums is designed so that all two-bedrooms in the building are corner units with “unobstructed views,” according to Wayne Caplan, senior associate with Sheldon Good Brokerage, LLC, which is marketing the project.
On Thursday, we took a tour of the largest condo in the north tower, a 1,408-square-foot unit with two bedrooms and two baths. With all of the upgrades – such as a General Electric Stainless Steel appliance package in the kitchen – this unit costs $399,900.
Features include hardwood floors, maple cabinetry, granite counters, track lighting and ceramic tile floor in the bathroom.
There are three features that make it noteworthy, at least in my mind:
The view
Facing west on the 10th floor, this unit had great views of St. Ita’s Church, which stands at 95 feet, has a limestone exterior and is built in the French Gothic style. As one buyer who toured the unit with me noted, you’ll see some pretty sweet sunsets with this view.
Clever nooks
The second bedroom had a neat desk area tucked away by the window, the kitchen included a small bar area, the living room had a fancy fireplace and the master bedroom had a spacious walk-in closet.
Exposed concrete
Lisa Langschwager, a sales associate with Sheldon Good Brokerage, told me exposed concrete ceilings are a traditional “Chicago loft” style. They gave a nice edge to this unit – which I thought was perfect for an area like Edgewater.
