525 Hawthorne enters final phase

The luxury 30-story highrise condo conversion at 525 W. Hawthorne is entering its final phase of sales with a selection of corner one-bedroom units with dens and two-bedroom units overlooking Belmont Harbor in East Lakeview.

“Five-twenty-five Hawthorne Place is a gemstone property nestled on a peaceful tree-lined street of historic mansions, grand lawns and wrought-iron gates near beautiful Belmont Harbor and Lake Shore Drive,” said Frank Baloun, president of RE/MAX Alliance Downtown, exclusive sales and marketing agent for 525 Hawthorne Development Corp., the developer.

“The $80 million highrise features only eight private residences per floor with spectacular bay-window views of the city and Lake Michigan,” said Baloun. The 232-unit building is more than 80 percent sold, he said.

Base prices in the final phase start at $248,150 for one-bedroom one-bath residences. Two-bedroom layouts with two baths start at $318,650.

Standard features include hardwood floors, maple cabinetry, marble baths, granite kitchen countertops and high-end Whirlpool appliances.

“The developer has spent millions of dollars to upgrade the building with new thermopane bay windows, tuck pointing and concrete work, a swimming pool and deck renovation,” said Baloun. Other improvements include a new lobby with canopy, a new fitness center, landscaping and garage refurbishing.

The highrise also features a canopied street entrance leading to a million-dollar marble lobby, a 24-hour doorman an outdoor swimming pool and a second-floor sundeck and fitness center.

At press time, buyers of two-bedroom two-bath units were being offered a free deeded parking space, and buyers of corner two-bedrooms were receiving half-priced parking spots, normally valued at $24,500.
