A Cobbler Square loft story – facts, lies and stale information

Over the weekend I noticed rental services advertising 2-bedroom, 2-bath lofts at Cobbler Square on Craigslist at prices ranging from $2,550 to $2,610. The lofts ranged in size up to 1,475 square feet.

I naturally headed for Cobbler Square’s website, and wasn’t surprised to learn that the only 2-bedroom, 2-bath available for rent in the building was 1,200 square feet and renting for $2,385.

The discrepancy in square footage was easy to understand – a typical rental service lie. A call to Cobbler Square’s leasing office clarified the price discrepancy: the rental services hadn’t updated their ads for a recent reduction in rent. One rental service did place a Craigslist ad for the apartment at a lower price – $2,370.

If you’re interested in the unit, and rent it within 24 hours of your first visit, Cobbler Square will cut the $300 move-in fee in half and give you a $600 sign-up bonus which you can apply to your first month’s rent.

If you’re searching for an apartment on Craigslist, be aware that you can’t rely on any information provided by any of the rental services on YoChicago’s do-not-call list.
