Join me for a drive west along 26th Street, the heart of commerce and community in the predominantly Mexican neighborhood of Little Village. The importance of 26th Street’s stores and restaurants can’t be ignored — only the Michigan Avenue retail area generates more sales revenue on an annual basis.

I’m just curious, where did you find the data for the fact that the area generates the second most sales revenues in Chicago? I’m interested in how other retail areas compare in Chicago. This street looks very similar to Lawrence Ave. from Califonia to Cicero. With lots of similar stores and a Mexican demographic. What are the sales revenues on that stretch of Lawrence Ave. and are they comparable?
BVE:
I believe the “second most” factoid dates back to a 2006 article in The Economist that’s now behind a paywall. You can find mention of it on Daniel Drezner’s blog and an ABC7 profile on Hispanic communities.
