A first look at the new Chestnut Place apartments

The 30-story Chestnut Place apartment tower at 850 N State in the Gold Coast / River North neighborhood changed ownership recently. The apartments, amenities and ground-level retail space are undergoing a complete makeover, and I stopped in earlier today for a look at one of the new apartments.

The 1-bedroom I visited had wood-look floors in the living areas and a sleek, open-plan kitchen with granite counters, stainless steel appliances and good cabinet and counter space.

The apartment had a very efficient layout, with little space lost to hallways. The bedroom had ample space for a large dresser, and a walk-in closet with organizers.

The bath had track lighting and a nice-sized vanity and mirror.

All of the apartments at Chestnut Place are corner units with good south views due to the building’s unusual saw-tooth configuration.

New residents who opt for a lower price-point can rent one of the “classic” apartments rather than a renovated one.

Chestnut Place has an outstanding location, with grocery shopping across the street, scores of restaurants and bars within a short walk, Oak Street and Michigan Avenue shops nearby, bus service at the front door and the CTA Red Line stop at Chicago Ave just over a block south.

Floor plans and near real-time availability info can be accessed online.
