A museum piece that's cutting-edge

Just two weeks after its grand opening, the Enterprise Companies’ latest Central Station highrise, Museum Park Place, was nearly half sold, according to Enterprise principal Ron Shipka, Jr.

The 23-story highrise, which has 187 condos and seven “townhouse” units at the building’s base, is the newest addition to “Museum Park,” a collection of condos, townhouses and “new-construction lofts” at Roosevelt and Indiana.

“After opening only two weeks ago, we’re already close to half sold…” Shipka said.

The building, designed by architects Pappageorge Haymes, represents a more modern aesthetic than the first structures to go up at Museum Park. While the earliest buildings were largely conservative, Museum Park Place is heavy on glass and steel, with structural elements expressed and bold diagonal lines marking the cap. The first Museum Park buildings, as the development name indicates, paid homage to the museum campus and the classical lines of Soldier Field. Museum Park Place has more in common with the futuristic-looking Solider Field addition.

The modern approach to design extends inside the units too, according to Shipka.

“Almost every plan includes a unique bonus room which can be utilized in a variety of ways such as a home office, den or even a studio,” Shipka said. “This is important for many homeowners since it enables them to keep the second bedroom free from being forced into double duty.”

East-facing condos with two bedrooms and dens are priced from the mid-$400s. Three-bedroom units have three views – facing east and west as well as either north or south – and start in the $500s. The townhomes, which have three bedrooms and 2.5 baths, are priced from the mid $500s.

Construction at Museum Park Place, www.MuseumParkPlace.com, is slated to begin by fall 2005.
