A trip down Archer Avenue

Yo’s truly spent Tuesday wandering along Archer Avenue. We stopped in at Crafts by Claudia, 4300 S Archer Ave, where owner Claudia Bends was teaching a group of women how to create baby shower gifts from lumps of pink dough (first photo). High from the smell of chocolate coming from the World’s Finest Chocolate factory (fourth photo), we paid a visit to the nearby Polish Highlanders Alliance in America, 4808 S Archer Ave (second and third photos). General manager Maria Remiasz tells Yo that the club, which has been on Archer for about 25 years and recently celebrated its 75th anniversary in Chicago, is moving with the times. Many Polish residents have long since moved to the suburbs but the club still packs them in at the weekend for dinner. In the meantime, the organization is doing a solid business renting function rooms out to the local Hispanic community for 50th birthday parties, wedding showers and other events. “We’re here for everyone,” Remiasz says.
