A video tour of vintage lakefront co-ops

Many Chicago real estate agents will pass their entire career without ever setting foot in one of the city’s great co-op buildings, while a select few agents come to know them intimately.

Koenig & Strey’s Heather Bilandic and Monique Crossan are among that select group. In the video they show us three co-op apartments and help demystify the concept of co-ops.

The tour begins at 1500 N Lake Shore Drive, the only Chicago project credited to Rosario Candela, the designer of many of New York’s most luxurious apartment buildings. When the building opened in the late 1920s Ruth Bergman wrote that “Olympus is more beautiful but the gods have never chilled their nectar in such magnificent iceboxes.” Its prominent residents included William Wrigley Jr, Chauncey Blair and banker George Woodruff, who lived in a fabulous 18-room penthouse, with its own reflecting pool and rooftop gardens.
