A warehouse makeover planned for Pilsen

The plans for several large new mixed-use / residential developments in Pilsen came to naught, but there is some significant construction on the horizon in the neighborhood – the rebuilding of a 122,000 square foot warehouse.

According to Crain’s Chicago Real Estate Daily, Urban Investment Research Corp. is doing the deal on a “spec” basis, hoping to line up distribution tenants for the facility. The site, at 2180 S Racine Ave, is a block west of the May Street Café, pictured above.

In the following video, shot just over five years ago, representatives of the Pilsen Together Chamber of Commerce were predicting a “totally different Pilsen in 5 years.” The Chamber’s website is no longer online, and its phone has been disconnected.
