A well-attended lakefront party at a superlative Winnetka home

Coldwell Banker’s Julie Deutsch and Maureen Mohling have seen and sold many of the North Shore’s grandest homes.

The Italianate villa at 175 Sheridan Rd in Winnetka, they say, is among the very best. It was completely gutted and rebuilt over a two-year period and is, in effect, a new home, albeit one dating to the 1920s.

The home boasts 6 bedrooms, 8 full and 3 half baths, a 6-car garage and beautifully landscaped grounds with a pool and terrace overlooking 150 feet of Lake Michigan frontage. The Willis Tower is said to be visible from the home’s belvedere when the foliage doesn’t interfere.

The home is priced at $13,900,000. It’s already drawn interest from several qualified prospects, according to Deutsch and Mohling.

The weather was perfect for a lakefront party, and the home drew the largest crowd I’ve seen at a brokers’ open house in quite a while. The caterer kept pace with the sangria sippers and served up a wide array of great-looking food.

The driveway to the property was blocked by open house signs, barring cars from entering. Real estate agents parked several blocks away and hoofed it to the open house, but quite a few arrived by bike and several lived near enough to walk from home.
