Affixing the first Target to the West Loop Target

Early yesterday afternoon workers were guiding the first Target sign into place on the north façade of the store on Jackson Blvd.

The store appears to be on track for its scheduled October opening, just over a year after breaking ground. It will have parking on the first level, a pharmacy, a health clinic, a Starbucks and a full grocery section.

Construction of the new Mariano’s on Halsted is also well underway. By early next year West Loop shoppers will have at least six major grocery stores within easy range: Target, Mariano’s, the Dominick’s on Halsted, Whole Foods on Roosevelt Rd, a Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market at Presidential Towers, and Jewel on Des Plaines in the nearby Fulton River District. Can they all prosper?
