Alcala’s, one of the largest retailers of western wear in the Midwest, has been a colorful presence on Chicago Avenue in the East Village longer than I’ve been in Chicago.
“Mom and dad started the business back in 1972, so next year we’re looking forward to the big 40,” said Robert Alcala, one of the owners when I stopped for a closer look.
Alcala’s had just kicked off its Labor Day sidewalk sale and had a huge selection of goods on sale, including markdowns on some of the more than 5,000 hats it stocks.
If you aren’t able to make it to the East Village location you can shop Alcala’s online.
