An alternative reality at University Commons

The UIC campus has been called a lot of things over the years. And now the Web site for University Commons Lofts informs us that UIC’s “park-like” campus “creates an environment of open green space.”

The site also invites you to “Stroll the vintage ambience of Halsted Street, visiting Barbara’s Bookstore, Caribou Coffee and Jamba Juice.” Wasn’t the vintage ambience what got wiped out to build Barbara’s, Caribou, etc?

Don’t miss this line:

University Commons is also the ideal home base for the valiant urban bon vivant determined to sample the city’s best sights, sounds and flavors.

I haven’t been down that way in weeks. Has the area changed that much?
