Don’t let the bedbugs bite, says the ProtectABed.com billboard at Roosevelt Rd and Clinton St.
When YoChicago talks about bedbugs we’re generally referring to a different and potentially more costly kind of parasite – apartment rental services.
The Protect a Bed billboard just happens to be positioned directly above one of the companies on our rental service do-not-call list. The sign may even be located on property owned by that company.

Hi Joe
I’m glad we were able to give you a laugh at our expense.
I would like to spend a quick second to give you some facts, as I feel a rebuttal is only fair.
-My family has been in this location since 1921 and owned the property where the billboard in located for over 60 years. If you went one more block west you would see that the street is actually named after my Grandfather on Jefferson/Roosevelt
-The billboard reads “Full Service Buyer Brokerage and Discounted Seller Options”
– As a DIY type I would think you would like our “Flat Fee MLS” service, that we provide to For Sale by Owners to help them save 50%-100% on commissions. Perhaps you could start a crusade against Full Service Realtors who charge 6% when a homeowner could pay only $299 to get on the MLS (With marketing tools and support)
-While we do some business on the North Side we do most of our transactions on the South Side where finding an apartment to rent is not as easy- We DO provide a useful service. While I actually agree with you on some of your charges against some rental locators. I can asure you, Kale Realty, as a family owned business; Service, Honesty and Fairness are our core values.
-Please inform your salesman who called me last week that I am no longer interested in advertising or purchasing video from your company or website.
Best of luck with your website-
Nick Kale Patterson
Nick,
My salesperson had previously been instructed by me that you’d been contacted in error.
In fairness to the MLS that you’re a member of, consider honestly complying with the broker reciprocity disclosure rules on your rental site.
Discount brokerage has a long history of failing most of the sellers who opt for it. And we make no secret of the fact that we’re supported by full-service brokers.
Hello
I realize that I cannot win on your message board, but you bring up a good point.
You are right, most For Sale by Owners fail to sell because they don’t price correctly. I’m always amazed when our clients cancel a listing then relist for 6% and reduce the price dramatically.
I highly respect listing Realtors and if they are able to prove their value beyond an MLS posting than they should have the business.
However, if a FSBO is willing to price with the market, have professional photos and stage the property to show, then they should have no problem selling with the MLS exposure. We have hundreds of clients that can confirm those facts.
PS- You do have a great website and good content. However, more positive than negative is always better.
nick,
Help me out here. I looked up 9 of the agents listed on your Web site in the IDFPR database.
Couldn’t find any licenses for 4 of them: Doug Bulthuis, Yelana Straight, Alisha Renken, Rick Hespenheide.
Temporary leasing agents? How does that apply to Hespenheide who says he’s been doing this for years?
What am I missing?
