An upbeat view of Auburn Gresham

Residents of Chicago’s affluent north lakefront neighborhoods often cringe at the mention of the neighborhoods they only know from reading the crime reports.

If you spend any time in those neighborhoods, however, you quickly discover that they all have their fiercely loyal fans and committed residents. Their focus is on what the place they live in ought to be and, they believe, can and will be. That focus often means that they live in an entirely different place than the one that outsiders see or read about.

Carlos Nelson is one of those people, and he left a career in corporate America to focus on Auburn Gresham, where he’s the Executive Director of the Greater Auburn Gresham Development Corporation. A while back he showed me around some of the development (video part one, part two) in his neighborhood a while back, and talked about his passion for Auburn Gresham in the linked videos.

You’ll find video from some of the other neighborhoods that LISC/Chicago is helping to redevelop at its Chicago Community Showcase channel at YouTube.
