Several weeks ago we asserted that Wilmette no longer makes demolition permit data available online. We wrongly relied on looking for the data where we recalled finding it several years ago. A tipster from the Village sent along a link to the list of demolition permits, which has since been updated through December 6.
It’s interesting to note that the great majority of the permits are for properties in the older parts of Wilmette east of Ridge Rd. Half a dozen years ago it seemed that West Wilmette was undergoing a major transformation due to the functional obsolescence of its 50s and 60s housing stock and soaring land values. That tend appears to have come to a complete halt in 2012.
