We recently rounded up loft developments on the North Side and South Side and were surprised by how quickly loft development south of Cermak is starting to catch up with loft conversion north of North Avenue. We weren’t surprised, however, to find just four active loft projects in the West Loop, three of them very far along in development. The ’90s saw endless loft conversions here, so much of the industrial building stock already is home to loft condos.
Lots of good conversion candidates remain in the West Loop, but many have a zoning designation that protects them from residential use. None of the four developments below is new to the market, and one, Paramount Lofts, was introduced three years ago. Buyers have a wide range of resale lofts to choose from in the West Loop, but if they’re hot for buying in a development, they can find quick delivery times compared to some other neighborhoods – and likely some good close-out deals.
