MB Real Estate is proposing to build a 40-story high-rise apartment tower at 171 W Van Buren in the Loop. The building, designed by Solomon Cordwell Buenz, would include between 225 and 275 apartments.
The tower would be less than a block away from the recently sold-out 714-unit condo building at 235 W Van Buren. Units at 235 Van Buren rented rapidly several years ago during a rent-to-own program. Individual units in the building have also frequently been available for rent.
The location’s advantages include excellent access to public transportation and to the expressway grid via the recently-revamped Congress Parkway interchange. It’s also a walk-to-work location for offices in the Loop and the nearby West Loop office corridor.
The site is currently occupied by single-story buildings.
We’ve updated our at-a-glance list of new downtown apartments to include this project.
