The housing stock, the schools, and mass-transit access to downtown Chicago make it easy to understand why so many families find west suburban River Forest so attractive.
River Forest District 90 elementary and middle schools rank among the state’s best and middle schools and Oak Park River Forest High School is also highly-rated.
The commute from the River Forest Metra stop to downtown Chicago is a mere 20 minutes.
River Forest homes range from the modest to the magnificent, many with architectural and historical significance. The setting is dominated by towering trees and lush greenery.
Last October Kathy and Tony Iwersen of Prudential Rubloff showed me around a 6,000 square foot French Normandy home on a large lot in River Forest. The home, at 830 Ashland Ave, has 5 bedrooms, 4 ½ baths, and a great deal of period detailing and original woodwork.
At the time of my visit the home was priced at $2,195,000 after a recent $400K reduction. The price was reduced again earlier this month, to $1,995,000.
We walk through the home in Part 2 of our video tour.
