Apartment occupancy rates rise in Chicago suburbs

Just as occupancy rates in apartment buildings are rising in the city, so too are occupancy rates in the suburbs, according to a recent report by Appraisal Research Counselors. Occupancy rates rose to 96.4% in the first quarter of 2006, up from 96% in the fourth quarter of 2005 and 95.1% a year ago. The first thing tenants lose when occupancy rates rise? Goodies ranging from one month of free rent to moving allowances to discounted parking spaces. The next step is usually a hike in the rent.
