Aqua blog has the right idea

Magellan Development Group sent out a memo today reminding everyone about one of its new online resources, the Aqua Home Owners blog. And you know what? It isn’t that bad. Its moderators already are in the habit of posting construction updates, complete with new photos of Aqua and information about which floors crews or pouring or where they’re installing windows and studs. Several posts promote upcoming events and recap recent meetings — these may not be things that Aqua buyers can easily participate in if they aren’t already living in Lakeshore East, but it’s a sign that Magellan is trying to establish a sense of community even before the high-rise is finished.

The blog also has category tags like “Timeline & Closing Schedule,” “Shore Club Update,” and “Retail Update,” all of which are important topics for buyers but rarely featured out front on a regular development site.

It’s not perfect: In several cases, the posts are just recycled versions of the press releases we and other publications receive from Magellan, the formatting (or lack thereof, in some cases) makes longer posts a chore to read, and the viewer for full-sized photos is a straight-up stinker. But given that some developers won’t feature things as simple as price sheets on their Web sites, it’s encouraging to see that others are making an effort to keep people up to date.

Out of all the development sites you visit on a regular basis, which one is the most informative? For that matter, what types of information do you expect a developer to offer online these days?
