At the Old Town School of Folk Music in Lincoln Park

Old Town School of Folk Music

Don’t let the name fool you: Chicago’s Old Town School of Folk Music is a Lincoln Park institution.

The store was first located within the boundaries of the Old Town Triangle at 333 North Ave. It’s been at 909 W Armitage Ave since 1968. The school also operates a location at 4544 N Lincoln Ave in Lincoln Square.

The school claims to be the nation’s largest independent community arts school and has an enrollment of nearly 6,600 students.

When we peeked inside the music store on Armitage Avenue, it made us want to write a song – guitars were hung on the wall (we particularly liked the “baby” guitars), keyboards were at our fingertips and African drums were placed on the floor.
