Auburn Gresham resident gets a hand from the New Communities Program

Nancy Doodman

If you’re curious how LISC Chicago’s New Communities Program might spend the $26 million it just received from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, consider the case of Nancy Doodman, an Auburn Gresham resident.

The Greater Auburn-Gresham Development Corp., one of NCP’s sub-agencies, helped install 20 windows in her house.

“I was going to put [the windows] in but couldn’t move it,” she says. “It was really a big help. I live alone and everything they do helps the neighborhood.”

Doodman was among a crowd who showed up Tuesday morning in Auburn Gresham to hear MacArthur officials announce the grant.

“Any time they have a meeting, I’ll be there if I can get there,” she said.
