Back to Prairie Avenue in Beverly

Yesterday marked a brief hiatus between our Prairie District Day coverage on Friday and today’s start of Beverlly / Morgan Park Week.

Prairie Avenue was far from my mind when I walked into Beverly’s Heritage Gallery, but Jack Simmerling took me back there.

Simmerling, fresh out of Notre Dame, founded his Beverly-based gallery 50 years ago. The gallery features his paintings, mostly watercolors, many of which recreate a lost Prairie Avenue he remembers as a young man living there.

Watch Jack Simmerling talk about his art and Prairie Avenue as we walk around the Heritage Gallery, 1915 W. 103rd St. You’ll also meet Francesca, the gallery’s fearsome cheese-eating protector.
