Belmont by Reside is a 14-story, 341-unit vintage apartment building at 3170 N Lake Shore St in Chicago’s Lakeview East neighborhood.
The building was completed in 1923. It was designed by Fugard & Knapp, a prolific architecture firm whose commissions included three of the luxury buildings on East Lake Shore Drive.
The apartments
Belmont by Reside has a mix of studio, 1- and 2-bedroom apartments. Two bedrooms have one or two baths. Studios range in size from 384 to 466 square feet, one-bedrooms from 524 to 975 square feet and two-bedrooms from 1,068 to 1,232 square feet.
Floor plans and availability are accessible online.
The updated apartments have hardwood floors in living areas, high ceilings, and stylish kitchens, many with breakfast bars, in a variety of finishes. The kitchens have gas ranges. A number of the apartments have separate dining areas.
Apartments have crown moldings and other vintage touches. Reside’s “accent wall” program enables the use of color to expand the space visually.
Views. The building’s U-shaped configuration affords many of the apartments good views of Belmont Harbor and the lake.
Amenities, services, policies
Belmont by Reside has a more extensive amenities package than you’ll typically find in vintage buildings.
A grand lobby sets the tone for the building, and there are a variety of resident lounge areas.
There’s a nicely-equipped fitness room at the building’s penthouse level. Arched windows flood the room with light.
The penthouse-level amenities include a party room with a billiards table and a kitchen / bar.
The party room opens onto a sprawling roof deck with multiple in-season seating areas, a fire pit and gas grills.
Furnished suites are available to accommodate overnight guests. Garage parking is available on-site with valet parking and car wash service. The building has a laundry room and a bicycle storage area.
Belmont by Reside has on-site leasing, management and maintenance staff, and is pet-friendly, subject to limits.
The location
Belmont by Reside has a high-profile location at the intersection of Sheridan Rd, Lake Shore Drive and Belmont Ave.
The building is in a residential part of Lakeview East that’s often referred to as Belmont Harbor. The location affords residents quick access to the park, the harbor and Lake Shore Drive.
Shopping. The nearest full-service grocery stores are about a half-mile from Belmont by Reside.
There’s Belmont Harbor Market in the building.
Jewel-Osco and Treasure Island are north on Broadway and Trader Joe’s and Walmart Neighborhood Market locations are about the same distance south. The Walmart has a pharmacy and there’s also a Walgreens at Belmont and Broadway.
Construction is underway for a new Mariano’s at Broadway just north of Wellington, a few blocks west of the building. The Mariano’s is slated to open in 2016.
There are Marshalls and Bed Bath and Beyond locations in the neighborhood for residents setting up housekeeping.
Dining, nightlife, entertainment. The neighborhood has a hyper-abundance of restaurants, bars and theaters, but you’ll have to travel a few blocks west to reach almost all of them.
Bridget McNeill’s, which bills itself as “not your average Irish pub,” is just a few steps from the building and has racked up mostly positive reviews at Yelp.
Walk west to Broadway and you’re in the center of a lively scene with too many venues to list.
Finding a regular weekend breakfast spot is the first order of dining business for many, and Belmont by Reside residents can head west to Broadway for Melrose, Stella’s and The Bagel.
The dense bar and restaurant scene in Wrigleyville is within walking distance.
Neighborhood street festivals and fairs are a great source of entertainment in the summer. Events near Belmont by Reside include – to name a few – Northalsted Market Days, the Lakeview East Festival of the Arts, Wrigleyville Summerfest, SausageFest, the Chicago Marathon and, of course, Pride Week. The websites for the Lakeview Citizens Council and the Lakeview and Lakeview East Chambers of Commerce are a good source to learn about upcoming events.
Parks, recreation. Belmont by Reside residents have convenient access to public parks and recreational activities.
The 1200-acre Lincoln Park, one of the great public spaces in America, is just east of Belmont by Reside.
Lincoln Park has almost every recreational amenity imaginable, from an archery range to a 9-hole golf course to a great free zoo.
Transportation. Belmont by Reside has good access to public transportation.
A variety of CTA bus routes traverse the area, steps from the property.
Belmont by Reside residents have a short walk to the #146 CTA bus (pdf) which runs express to the 900 Shops, anchored by Bloomingdale’s, on Michigan Avenue’s Magnificent Mile, and then on to the Loop.
The #156 and #151 buses stop outside the building on their way to the Loop, while the #77 bus connects to the CTA Red, Brown and Purple lines and the Blue Line to O’Hare Airport.
Lake Shore Drive access is a half-block away. Crosstown access to I-90/94 and the city’s expressway grid is inconvenient from this location, and can be especially time-consuming before and after Cubs’ games.
A Zipcar car sharing location is on-site and a DIVVY bike station is across the street.
