Berkshire Hathaway’s acquisition of Koenig & Strey

Koenig & Strey’s 50-year history positioned it as one of the leading companies in the Chicago real estate market.

I recently sat down with Doug Ayers, President and CEO of Koenig & Strey. At the outset of our interview I asked him to talk a bit about the company’s recent acquisition by Berkshire Hathaway, and what it means for Chicago-area home buyers, sellers and agents.

Ayers explained Berkshire Hathaway’s acquisition philosophy: “They look for what they consider undervalued companies that have a great potential for growth. They want to buy those kinds of companies with strong leadership, strong management, and then hold them forever. Koenig & Strey fit that very well.”

The next step for Koenig & Strey? “It’s all about growth,” said Ayers. “If you’re not growing, you’re dying.” Ayers is confident the stability that the acquisition provides will enable Koenig & Strey to continue to provide better services and grow the company for the benefit of consumers and real estate agents.

Ayers talks about how the company adapted to the changing environment of the past several years, some of its recent growth, and the company’s focus on service.
