Bill supporting affordable housing passes House with broad support

The House has passed a bill establishing a trust fund to support affordable housing, according to a favorable editorial in The New York Times. The National Housing Trust Fund will build, preserve and rehab 1.5 million homes over a 10-year span. Developers will get the money through grants from local jurisdictions. Mixed-income communities are the desired result.

A companion bill is expected to be introduced shortly in the Senate.
