Bronzeville rents: the difference $5 makes

Brownstone

Given the spate of new construction and historic restoration going on throughout Bronzeville in recent years, talk tends to focus on home sales. We decided to take a look at Craigslist to see what what rentals we could find. We spotted these two and couldn’t help notice that they’re separated by $5, a couple of blocks and about 800 square feet. A disclaimer for all the purists out there: we realize these units aren’t in Bronzeville per se, but rather Grand Boulevard, a growing area that residents and agents alike refer to as part of the greater Bronzeville community.

Let’s take a look:

-$1,495 per month gets you a two-bedroom, two-bathroom, recently-remodeled condo at 48th and Vincennes. Features include stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, a breakfast bar, hardwood floors, vessel-bowl sinks in the bathrooms, a Jacuzzi-tub, custom paint and crown molding. The 1,200-square-foot unit also features forced-air heat and air conditioning, as well as a washer and dryer. Though the ad specifies that the unit has a secured entrance, it doesn’t say whether or not parking is available.

Bronzeville

-$1,500 per month gets you four bedrooms and three bathrooms in a turn-of-the-century, owner-occupied brownstone. Spanning an entire first floor, this unit features a new eat-in kitchen, renovated bathrooms and even a laundry room equipped with a stackable washer and dryer. Features include 10-foot ceilings and hardwood floors throughout, a new energy-efficient furnace with central air and a back deck. No parking information is provided in this ad, either.
