After several weather-caused delays the pedestrian bridge connecting the K2 luxury apartments to the neighboring Jewel-Osco was lifted into place this morning.
The bridge is an open-air steel structure that spans 105 feet. Two cranes were used to lift it because, according to Alan Schachtman, Executive VP of the Fifield Cos, K2’s developer, it needed to be placed within a quarter-inch tolerance. That’s a routine operation for Fifield and McHugh Construction, but setting tons of steel that precisely is a feat that’s awe-inspiring to many of us.
Residents will have access to the bridge via key fob in March after side panels, the walkway surface and special lighting have been installed.
