The Cabrini-Green area has been the subject of intensified interest on the part of developers recently, including Ranquist Development’s planned 47-rowhome Basecamp River North project, and Fifield Companies‘ proposed 31-story, 333-unit apartment tower at Chestnut and Orleans (site pictured above).
The Chicago Housing Authority recently released its draft plan (pdf) for the redevelopment of the remaining 65 acres of Cabrini-Green. The plan contemplates a variety of initiatives on the site, including retail and residential development that could result in as many as 2,800 new housing units.
A year ago Crain’s Chicago Business wrote an article headlined “Developers stampede River North with apartment projects.” Given the attractiveness of Cabrini-Green’s location, it’s likely that a real stampede is about to begin as developers vie for the right to build on the Cabrini parcels.
Trivia: If you download the CHA’s draft plan for Cabrini-Green, you’ll see an aerial photo licensed from YoChicago on the cover. You can see more of our aerial photography at Flickr.

Does anyone understand what they are doing with the Cabrini Row Homes?
