This spring we dished about the “luminiferous homes” headed for Humboldt Park and lamented the fact that none of the houses’ renderings seemed to be inspired by the famous Hispanic artists after which the different models are named. Well, we finally went out to see California Estates in person, secretly hoping developer Senco Properties had had a visit from the muses during construction. They’re attractive, sure, but these single-family homes can only feel like a bit of a letdown when associated with works of art. You might say the especially wide bay on the Botero model (top left), named after Colombian artist Fernando Botero, mimics the exaggerated proportions the artist uses in his portraiture, but we were expecting something a little more revolutionary from the rather bland Diego (middle). The development, located at 1838 N California Ave, has 16 four-bedroom homes priced from the $670s, and Property Consultants is handling marketing.
