It’s apparently the height of the silly season in Palatine, where the Village Council has just decreed that trees depicted in home sales brochures must be planted at the homes. The Village has also requested developers to show what the homes would look like in a shrubbery-free winter.
Will developers respond by simply omitting pictures of trees in sales brochures? My take, with apologies to Joyce Kilmer:
I think that I shall never see
A picture of a Palatine tree.A tree whose spreading limbs are shown
In gloss brochures of lovely homes.A tree that in mid-winter bares
Its spindly branches to cold airs.Poems are made by fools like me,
And Palatine can’t make a tree.
