BeNo is a little-known Chicago neighborhood bounded on three sides by the Chicago River and on the west by a foundation wall for the North Avenue bridge. It’s below North Avenue, just west of SoNo.
Shopping options are sparse in BeNo, but plentiful in the nearby Clybourn Corridor. Nightlife is dreaded. The only dining venue is a self-service snack bar in North BeNo. Municipal services, including garbage pickup, are infrequent and said to be inadequate.
BeNo does have good skyline views and a colorful public art scene.
I spoke with several residents who had recently relocated from Albany Park, attracted by BeNo’s low rents, which do not include utilities. They tell me that, despite BeNo’s low and stable rents, they’d rather be back in Albany Park.
