Chicago rent barometer: Bridgeport

With good proximity to downtown and US Cellular Field, the Bridgeport neighborhood has a solid location with a bit of city grit thrown in to keep things interesting. Rents are generally pretty reasonable, as we found on a recent Craigslist search:

– If you’re flying solo, one-bedrooms in the neighborhood generally start around $500. We found a third-floor one-bedroom apartment at 3800 S Wallace St with ample light and a walk-in closet for $600 a month. The ad claims views of the ballpark and the city skyline.

– Although this two-bedroom apartment looks a tad on the small side (it’s 600 square feet, according to the ad), the place has hardwood floors and what appears from the photo to be a newer kitchen. The apartment, located at the northeast corner of 30th Street and Union Avenue, is listed at $900 a month. You can definitely find a cheaper place in the area, but we wouldn’t bank on space or amenities to be very abundant.

3614 S Lowe Ave.

– For those with a few roommates in tow, this three-bedroom duplex  at 3614 S Lowe Ave packs a good bang for your buck. Hardwood floors, stainless steel appliances, granite counters, central air, a large outdoor deck, two marble baths, in-unit washer and dryer, and parking all come for $1,650 a month.
