It’s easy to start thinking you have to be a millionaire to buy a home in Chicago, an idea we no doubt contributed to with recent posts on luxury condos and co-ops available on exclusive E Lake Shore Dr. To balance the books, here are median prices from 2005 for single-family homes in four of the city’s most affordable neighborhoods. Keep in mind that because these are median prices, half of the homes in each neighborhood actually are priced below these numbers, which were compiled by the Chicago Association of Realtors based on statistics from the Multiple Listing Service of Northern Illinois.
- Englewood $79,500
- Washington Park $82,000
- Riverdale $82,500
- West Englewood $90,000
