YoChicago’s archived stories can be a reminder of how often Chicago real estate dreams turn to dust – and how quickly.

Back in June of 2006 we noted that the new construction market was cooling after a lengthy boom, but continued our annual New Homes Magazine tradition of spotlighting Chicago’s “hottest neighborhoods.” We gathered information from quite a few sources, and tallied all the new construction projects in the city, before making our consensus selections.

Our picks were Avondale, Galewood, Jefferson Park, Near South, Near West, South Chicago, Washington Park and Woodlawn.

Next month we’ll provide a “five years on” look at each of these neighborhoods.
