Stately and traditional or mostly mod? You’ll find the former in the six-bedroom mansion at 75 E Elm St (at left), the latter in the six-bedroom mansion at 77 E Elm St (at right). Both homes were listed last year by Valerie Samutin of Baird & Warner, and both have dropped from their starting prices by $1 million or more.

75 East Elm started out at $4.2 million in April, dropped to $3.5 million in August, and dropped again to $2.99 million yesterday. The home features a grand staircase, period moldings, original fireplaces, formal rooms, a custom kitchen, a family room, six baths, and a private deck overlooking a garden. 2008 taxes were $27,791. The home last sold in 2000 for $2.22 million.

77 East Elm, which Samutin currently owns, started at $4.5 million, dropped to $3.9 million in September, and again to $3.5 million yesterday. The 7,000 square-foot home has 7.5 baths, and a mix of “vintage gorgeousness combined with modern luxury chic” in its finishes. 2008 taxes were $17,732 with a homeowner exemption. The home last sold in 2002 for $2 million.
