City approves redevelopment plan for Grand Boulevard apartment complex

The Community Development Commission on Tuesday approved a $26.8 million plan to replace 60 old townhome-style apartments in the the Paul G. Stewart Apartment complex with new Bronzeville Family Apartments multi-story buildings in Grand Boulevard. The city will contribute $4.5 million in TIF assistance to the project.

Phase I will comprise four three-story buildings and the demolition and reconstruction of an existing community center into a 6,700 square-foot facility with recreation and office space. Phase II will involve the replacement of the remaining 24 townhomes.
