City gives Target a helping hand in northwest Chicago

We hear that the city has cleared the way for Target to open a store on a 6.4 acre site at 2036 W Peterson Ave. The site has been vacant for a few years and the store will provide jobs for about 100 people, so it sounds like a good thing.

The site used to be occupied by Kmart, which has been steadily closing stores across the country after losing its Darwinian survival of the fittest battle against Target.

Charitably, the city plans to give $4.6 million in Tax Increment Financing (TIF) assistance to the Target Corporation which should aid its continuing struggle for market dominance.
