We recently posited that 235 Van Buren, the latest from architect Ralph Johnson, of Perkins & Will, could be the love child of two of his earlier projects, Skybridge and Contemporaine. Is it the kind of love child you’d want to adopt? Or is it the kind Diana Ross sang about? You can get a closer look at the project when CMK Realty holds a reception to kick off sales. The event is from 5 to 7 p.m. next Thursday, Sept. 6, at 405 N Wells St. Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres are complimentary, and valet parking is available. To R.S.V.P., contact Amanda at CMK Realty.

In a previous blog, I was told that this building was “70% pre-sold” before any marketing was even done. Why have a kick-off party if you have contracts on a whopping 70% of the units and you don’t even have floor plans or a construction start? Who was the smoke blower on that blog?
There are over 700 units in the building. Even if it was 70% sold, there are still 200+ units left. But 70% is a little too high, a person from CMK told me that a building is just over 50% sold, but that was 2 months ago.
Paulj,
They do have floor plans – obviously you need to have floor plans to sell any units, let alone more than 350 units. And they have been doing contruction work – they demolished the chinese restaurant on the lot and have been doing some excavation work in the last couple of weeks.
