Today’s segment from Joe Zekas and Francesca Rose‘s Lake Shore Drive walk showcases 219 East Lake Shore, a vintage co-op designed by Fugard & Knapp. 219 is one of only eight buildings on the landmarked, architecturally cohesive block of East Lake Shore Drive, and is noteworthy for featuring elevators that open directly into its units.

I couldn’t find the listing Francesca mentions in this video, but I did find a record of the building’s most recent sale, a sixth-floor unit that sold in April for $1.22 million. As a Realtor told Dennis Rodkin during a tour of the building two years ago, a lot of sales in 219 and other East Lake Shore Drive co-ops are private and never surface on the MLS.

  • 219 is a condo building. Both it and the Mayfair were originally done by Fugard & Knapp in what was then a new neighborhood emerging on the landfill East of Michigan Avenue. Both were converted by FitzGerald Associates Architects.

  • PJ,

    You’re correct that 219 is a condo.

I don’t know whether FitzGerald was the architect for the Mayfair conversion, but it wasn’t the developer. That was Bruce Abrams of LR.
