Condominiums fit for a Kennedy

Few neighborhoods can claim to epitomize Chicago more than Jefferson Park. The Northwest Side community is home to quiet streets, sturdy brick bungalows and family-owned businesses. Historically, immigrants from Poland and elsewhere moved northwest up Milwaukee Avenue as their incomes rose, and when they hit Jefferson Park, they knew they’d made it. Subsequent generations stayed in the neighborhood, which has remained comparatively affordable despite rapidly rising home values.

Development has long been scarce in Jefferson Park because little land is available, so when a project like Kennedy Estates comes along, neighbors take notice. The new 22-unit condo development sits, as you might have guessed, between the Kennedy and Edens expressways, at 4810 N. Lavergne. One of the primary draws, apart from the stable neighborhood setting, is obviously convenience.

“Kennedy Estates is a perfect condominium choice for buyers who work in the city or the suburbs because the development is located just east of the Kennedy Expressway at Lawrence Avenue,” said Barbara Buchel, sales agent for Jameson Realty Group, www.jameson.com, exclusive sales agent for the project. And for couples in which one partner works in the suburbs and the other in the city – an increasingly common phenomenon in urban households – Kennedy Estates might be the perfect compromise.

The homes include two bedrooms, two baths, a heated parking space and 1,267 to 2,430 square feet, priced from the $330s to the $570s.

The building will be a modern design of concrete and steel with four ground-floor storefronts, 22 condominiums, a 23-space underground parking garage, a sundeck and a fitness center on the top floor.

“The development has an intimate feeling due to the small number of residences, but it also has the convenience of ground-floor commercial space,” Buchel said.

All of the units feature nine-foot ceiling heights and oak floors in living areas, private balconies, maple cabinets, granite countertops, stainless-steel GE appliances, marble master baths and washer and dryer hookups.
