Demolition work is wrapping up at 1233 N Wells St in Old Town, so expect to see Hines Interests‘ new 18-story mid-rise start its rise very soon.

1233 N Wells StHines, with some help from JDL Development, plans to build 250 apartments over 38,000 square feet of retail space on the site once occupied by the Grossinger Cadillac Autoplex. The new building was designed by Hartshorne Plunkard Architecture.

  • Joe,

The project is going down before it goes up.

The next step in the construction processs is sinking caissons – down about 90 feet at this point – until they hit bedrock.

  • Does anybody a=have access to building drawings and plans? I can’t get anything from the alderman her people are pretty tough to track down about this projecy, but I am not against it, I just want to see what the layout of the land is going to look like.
    Thanks John

  • I don’t think they want anyone to see what the building is going to look like. The building looks terrible on the outside so far and doesn’t fit into Wells Street at all. The builder doesn’t really care about the people in Old Town or on Wells Street. Vi Daley gave the builder the ok to do anything they want before she left office. That was her thank you to old town.
