Yesterday was my first visit to old E.R. Moore cap-and-gown factory at 1800 W Grace St in North Center, which The Kopley Group is transforming into the Lofts at 1800, and I was struck by its size. The development will take up a whole block, albeit a small one by Chicago standards, because of the CTA tracks that split the block in two.
The 91-unit building is tucked between the Metra tracks to the east and the CTA Brown Line to the west, so if you’re a choo-choo lover, this place is for you.
When I spoke with Lynne Jackson from the Kopley Group in July, one-bedroom lofts were priced from the $260s, two-bedrooms were priced from the $350s and three-bedrooms started in the $720s.
Construction workers were on site when I visited on Monday, but it looks like there is still plenty of work to be done before this building is ready for deliveries. Construction is scheduled for completion in summer 2009. A couple more photos are below, along with a sketch of the finished product.
